Children’s eating habits in Switzerland have a negative impact on their health (overweight, obesity) and the environment (significant food waste). There is a lack of local, engaging, and effective initiatives to raise awareness about these issues.
- Promote healthy and sustainable eating habits in Geneva primary schools.
- Provide children aged 8 to 12 with direct, hands-on access to the world of food.
- Raise awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals through food education.
- Strengthen urban-rural connections and highlight local food systems through school-based encounters.
- Awareness week in 15 schools per year, structured in two phases:
- ½ day of themed learning (Food waste, seasonality of produce, from farm to fork, etc.).
- 1 inter-class synthesis day (presentations, quizzes, and knowledge sharing).
- Lunchtime awareness activities to reinforce daily learning.
- Development and distribution of educational materials for teachers and students (student workbook and interactive activities).
Founded in 2018, Swiss Food Academy is dedicated to raising awareness among children and adults about healthy and sustainable eating. Its mission is to improve children’s quality of life by educating parents and educators on the importance of nutrition. Through workshops and outreach initiatives, the association helps bring meaning back to food and contributes to building a healthier future for the next generations.
