The Fondation Didier et Martine PRIMAT, acting through its Special Fund ODONATA, is partnering with the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image in Angoulême to support innovative projects within the French comic book scene and encourage creative works addressing tomorrow’s challenges (human rights, biodiversity, citizenship, health) through the creation of a residency on the grounds of Domaine des Étangs in Charente. This artist residency is dedicated to the creation of a large-format, ephemeral graphic storytelling artwork within the park of Domaine des Étangs.
Michael Sterckeman, winner of the 2023 residency
The artist will take over an open-air space, Les Ruines de la Métairie de la Barre, along the “Art and Nature” trail, to create an ephemeral work in the form of a narrative that draws as much from illustration and comics as from graphic storytelling. This work, closely tied to its surroundings, will consist of a series of sequences reproduced on large-format, weather-resistant prints. These prints will be affixed to the walls, playing with the texture of the surfaces to create something deeply organic that will fade away over time.
