The Foundation is joining forces with the Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l’image in Angoulême to support innovative projects on the French comics scene and encourage creative work linked to the issues of tomorrow (human rights, biodiversity, citizenship, health) through the creation of a residency at the Domaine des Etangs in Charente. This artistic residency is dedicated to the creation of an ephemeral work of large-format graphic storytelling in the grounds of the Domaine des Etangs.
Michael Sterckeman, winner of the 2023 residency
Michael Sterckeman will be taking over an open-air space, Les Ruines de la Métairie de la Barre, as part of the Art and Nature trail, to create an ephemeral work in the form of a narrative that borrows from illustration, comics and graphic storytelling. The work, which will be linked to its environment, will consist of a series of sequences reproduced on large-format, weather-resistant prints. These prints will be stuck to the walls, playing with the material of the walls and offering something very different.
The prints will be stuck to the walls, playing with the material of the walls and creating something very organic that will disappear over time.
The Cité internationale de la bande dessinée et de l'image is a unique place in Europe dedicated to comics and images, with its Comic Strip Museum, its Authors' House, its cinema, its bookshop, its comic strip library, its heritage library, its documentation and research centre and its cultural and educational programme.
