ICE MEMORY mission in the Grand Combin massif in Valais Switzerland begins!
The Didier and Martine Primat Foundation is delighted to announce the start of the ICE MEMORY mission in the Grand Combin massif in Valais Switzerland!
A team of Italian and Swiss scientists have just set up a camp at 4,100 meters from September 14 to 18 to extract ice cores for an “ice sanctuary” in Antarctica. This is their second expedition on an alpine glacier, after the 2016 expedition on Mont Blanc.
Good weather conditions are essential for the success of the expedition, as the only way in and out is by helicopter. We wish the team good sunny days!
The Primat Foundation has been supporting the ICE MEMORY project since 2017 and members of our Foundation Board will join the team for a visit of the ongoing operations this Thursday.
